Campaign 4 Notes:

Mission 14 - Flak tracked us the entire time over the target, but no hits. A Heinkel Owl made a single pass at us, initially unseen. We took a number of hits, some were of no consequence. Our tail gunner lost his heat, as well as us losing our tail wheel. Made for a bumpy landing. The Owl did not make a second pass.
Mission 16 -
We were plagued much of the time over Germany. Upon entering German airspace we were greeted by Ack Ack and a night fighter, a Do217 J1. We took hits to the left rudder, the bomb bay, and the ammo tracks in the rear. No hits caused any functional damage. Over the target flak found us again, scoring four hits, with two causing minor damage. We took some damage to the O2 system, and the autopilot release mechanism was knocked out. Even with the release mech out, we dropped 40% on target. On target egress flak found us, but caused no damage. We were attacked by a second night fighter, an Me110 G4, which we summarily shot down, but without credit. Shortly thereafter some light desultory Ack Ack made an attempt on us, without success. The rest of the flight through Germany brought no enemy flak or fighters.
Mission 17 - None Submitted.
Mission 18- Approaching the German border from Belgium #3 engine caught fire. Fire extinguished, decided to abort. Turned around and dropped to low altitude. Once over The Netherlands we dropped our bombs and continued home. Landed safely.
Mission 19 - D-Devil lost Mandrel while still over the North Sea. The crew began dropping Window as they entered enemy airspace. Flak was a common companion, causing minor damage in multiple instances. Deep into Germany a Dornier 217 made repeated Schrage attacks. The attacks took out the tail gun, the bomb drop mechanism, a dinghy, injured the tail gunner, damaged multiple control surfaces, and holed a fuel tank. Rate of fuel loss gave D-Devil about an hour of flight time left. Knowing the plane would never make it out of enemy territory, the crew continued on in their mission. Target was completely obscured. Even with damaged bomb release controls, Bomb Aimer Wright was able to put 20% on target. Dropping to warmer and thicker air, having lost heat in multiple locations, coupled with the heavy loss of fuel, D-Devil was attacked once more, this time by a Junkers 88. Bomb Aimer Wright was slightly wounded in the attack. Finally out of fuel the crew bailed out of the dying bomber. Six of the crew survived the jump. P/O Wright did not survive the bail out.
